Roopkund is a mysterious lake situated high up at 5,029 meters above sea level, nestled between Trishul Peak and Nanda Ghunti. It’s known as the “Mystery Lake” because of the discovery of ancient human skeletons and horse remains dating back to the Paleolithic age.
Surrounded by stunning scenery of green mountains and icy glaciers, Roopkund is a popular trekking destination. The skeletons found here are believed to be around 500-600 years old. The area remains frozen for most of the year but offers breathtaking views.
The trek to Roopkund is an exciting adventure, passing through quaint villages, beautiful meadows, and the sacred pond of Bedni Kund with its clear water. The trail becomes steep as you approach Roopkund from Bedni Bugyal. About 5 kilometers before reaching the lake is Baguabasa, located at 4,100 meters above sea level.
