Red Fort

3 KM from city centre

The Red Fort, located in Old Delhi, is a historic fortress built by Shah Jahan in 1639 when he shifted the capital from Agra to Delhi. It served as the primary residence for the Mughal emperors and was the center of Mughal power and ceremonies. The fort’s name comes from its sturdy red sandstone walls.

Beyond housing the emperors and their families, the Red Fort played a crucial role in Mughal politics and hosted significant events in the region’s history. Today, it houses several museums displaying valuable artifacts. Each year, on Independence Day, the Indian Prime Minister hoists the national flag at this iconic monument.
