Rajghat in Delhi is a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, India’s Father of the Nation, who was cremated there after his assassination in 1948. The memorial is a simple black marble structure surrounded by a beautiful garden. People from India and around the world visit Rajghat to pay their respects to Gandhi. A prayer is held every Friday, the day he died.
Rajghat also has memorials for other important Indian leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi, among others. The name “Rajghat” means “King’s Bank,” referring to its location on the bank of the Yamuna River.
